Gen 1 vs. Gen 2: what changed?
The modern 5.7L HEMI is a 345-cubic-inch pushrod V8. The 2009 update introduced the Eagle configuration, including revised cylinder heads and variable valve timing. Matching the correct engine requires more than the same displacement.

About the names: Fraser uses “Gen 1” and “Gen 2” here to separate these two 5.7L shopping ranges. Both are part of the modern Gen III HEMI engine family. These labels do not refer to the historic first- and second-generation HEMI engines.

Inside the build
Fraser 5.7L HEMI upgrades & remanufacturing.
Compare the work inside your engine as well as the equipment supplied with it. Fraser’s published HEMI programs include the features below across selected builds. Your quoted part number determines the machining, replacement components, testing, and applicable technical service bulletin updates included.
Block & cylinder heads
Cylinder boring and honing, deck preparation, and alignment work as specified for the build. Casting condition and measured clearances guide the remanufacturing process.
Pistons, rings & bearings
Listed standard and Advantage builds include new pistons, rings, and bearings. Selected packages specify hypereutectic pistons with anti-scuff coatings and updated ring designs.
Valve seats & sealing
Selected programs include precision valve-seat machining, early-head seat replacement, pressure checks, and renewed valve sealing components. Confirm the head specification for your application.
Camshaft & lifters
Application-matched lifters and camshaft specifications, with lifter-bore and valvetrain checks in selected programs. Standard MDS, non-MDS, and specialty configurations require different component matching.
Timing components & oil pump
New timing components and an oil pump appear in the listed standard and Advantage builds. Specialty packages may specify a performance pump or a different camshaft configuration.
Gaskets, seals & testing
New gaskets and seals, with balanced and tested rotating assemblies in listed builds. Selected programs also specify MLS gaskets, renewed fasteners, and spin testing.
Ask for the complete build specification and the updates applicable to your VIN. Component brands, external covers, sensors, and accessories are included only when specified on your quote.
Choose the package for your application
OEM-spec. Fraser Advantage. Specialty HEMI builds.
Standard & Advantage
Compare the internal components, supplied equipment, and warranty on your generation’s pricing page. Selected listings offer 3-year or 5-year unlimited-mile coverage, with No-Fault options available by package.
MDS & VVT options
Selected Gen 2 listings include MDS-delete, VVT-delete, and performance-cam configurations. These require a matching installation and calibration plan; an MDS delete and a VVT delete are separate changes.
For specialty builds, confirm intended use, required programming, ECM unlock requirements, and any equipment your installer must supply. Warranty coverage and eligibility follow the written terms for the selected engine.

5.7L HEMI engine questions, answered.
Which pricing page should I choose?
Start with Gen 1 for the 2003–2008 range or Gen 2 for the 2009–2024 range. Then confirm your vehicle’s original engine configuration by VIN before choosing a specific unit. Modified and specialty vehicles need individual review.
Are all 5.7L HEMI engines interchangeable?
No. Cylinder heads, timing equipment, engine controls, MDS components, oil pans, and other application-specific hardware can differ. Match the complete engine specification rather than displacement alone.
Does every 5.7L HEMI have MDS?
No. MDS availability depends on the vehicle, year, transmission, and engine configuration. Confirm whether the original engine uses cylinder deactivation before ordering replacement components or an engine assembly.
What is the difference between MDS and VVT?
MDS deactivates selected cylinders under certain operating conditions. VVT changes camshaft timing. These systems perform different functions, so changing one does not automatically change the other.
Does a replacement HEMI include all the accessories?
Included equipment depends on the package. Confirm the oil pan, timing cover, valve covers, intake, sensors, and other accessories on your written quote. Reference photos do not establish which parts are supplied.
What warranty, shipping, and core terms apply?
Review the selected engine listing and written quote for coverage, freight, core requirements, and installation conditions. A temporary core-deposit waiver does not eliminate the obligation to return your original core under the agreed terms.
