Built for the Correct GM Application
Fraser checks more than displacement. The final engine selection can depend on the VIN, model year, engine code, block material, fuel type, two-wheel or four-wheel drive configuration, emissions equipment and the vehicle's original cylinder-deactivation system.
This verification helps prevent common ordering problems such as incorrect sensor provisions, incompatible oil pans, mismatched reluctor wheels and the wrong front-cover or fuel-system configuration.
AFM, DOD, DFM, VVT or delete configurations may require programming. The exact product configuration and customer programming responsibilities must be confirmed before the order is released.
5.3L Engine Warranty, Shipping and Core Return

Remanufactured 5.3L GM Engine FAQs
Which 5.3L engine fits my Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra?
The correct engine depends on the model year, full VIN, engine code and original vehicle configuration. Select the correct year-range card, then submit the VIN so Fraser can verify the exact application before shipment.
Are all Chevrolet and GMC 5.3L engines interchangeable?
No. The GM 5.3L family includes several generations, engine codes, block materials, fuel systems and cylinder-deactivation designs. Engines that share the same displacement are not automatically interchangeable.
What is the difference between a 5.3L Vortec and a 5.3L EcoTec3?
Vortec commonly describes earlier Gen III and Gen IV GM truck engines. EcoTec3 generally identifies newer Gen V engines using direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder-deactivation technology. Parts, electronics and vehicle compatibility differ by generation.
How do I know if my 5.3L engine has AFM, DOD or DFM?
These systems vary by year, engine code and vehicle configuration. The VIN and original calibration information are used to determine the correct replacement. Do not order a delete or non-delete configuration without confirming programming requirements.
Why is the 2019 model year divided into two selections?
The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra changed platforms and engine configurations during the 2019 model year. The build date, body style, VIN and engine code help determine whether the vehicle belongs in the earlier 2015–2019 group or the 2019½-and-newer group.
Does a remanufactured 5.3L engine have miles on it?
The remanufactured engine begins with zero service miles after rebuilding. It is produced from inspected reusable castings that are machined and assembled with replacement wear components according to the applicable build specifications.
Is commercial shipping free?
Commercial shipping is free on eligible engine orders. Residential delivery is $125. Shipping availability, accessorial charges and delivery timing are confirmed before the order is finalized.
Will my payment be charged when I submit the online order form?
No. Payment is not charged until a Fraser team member verbally verifies the vehicle, selected engine, shipping information and final order total.
Not Sure Which 5.3L Engine You Need?
